Flashing Back to ’87

DNR mag 1

As the launch of our online store approaches, we flash back to the opening of the first Katharine Hamnett flagship store.

Designed by Norman Foster, the 5,000 sq. ft. former garage was epic in every sense of the word. Fit with floor to ceiling windows and accessible via a lengthy footbridge lit from below, 1987’s DNR Magazine confessed that crossing it was “an uplifting experience, sort of like spanning the great abyss into heaven”

Declaring it a ‘mecca’ that brought “the trendy, design conscious and just plain curious” to London’s Brompton Road. DNR affirmed that “one does not enter the Hamnett shop, one arrives.”
