These days consumers can pat themselves on the back while buying products that don’t call for any sacrifice of employment.

The British fashion designer has long been an activist, making waves in the early 1980s with protest T-shirts emblazoned with slogans such as “Choose Life” and “Save the World”

“We wanted to prove you can do a line that is ethical and environmental, and it’s not brown and lumpy, but sophisticated as any other international designer collection as far as quality, look, feel and desirability,” Ms Hamnett says.
